Rock Bottom will be released very soon! Since it won't be long before it's released, I thought I would share an excerpt from the book. You can read the entire first chapter of Rock Bottom on my website here.

Screams suddenly burst out from all directions, raising the fur along Saderia’s spine. Howls, snarls, shrieks, and wails rose up from the darkness all around her, echoing in her ears and growing louder and louder each second. Her heart skipped a beat and her eyes widened in horror. What was going on?

A flash of silver moonlight suddenly sliced through the darkness, shattering the shadows around her. Shrieks and snarls screamed in Saderia’s ears and a wave of heat crashed over her like a wave. Gritty sand dunes took shape out of the darkness of the night. All around her, shadowy figures clashed, letting out howls and screams in the frigid air of the night. Shadows lurched across the sandy ground in one dark, indistinguishable mess. The salty scent of blood rose thickly in the air and scarlet liquid splattered the ground.

Fear rose in Saderia’s chest as dark figures tumbled past her, locked in deadly battles. Shrieks erupted from all directions, splitting her eardrums. A terrified howl rose up over the screams of battle, sending a shiver down her spine. “We have to get out of here!”

A hazy, indistinct yellow brown figure leapt out from the shadows in front of her. “Run! Get out of here and don’t come back! You don’t have to die like us!”

Horror gleamed in Saderia’s eyes. Before she realized what was happening, her paws were moving frantically. Screaming shadow figures flew past her on either side, lashing out at her as she ran and swinging at other shadows. Everything around her was nothing but a blur of darkness, heat, and blood, making it impossible to see. Out of nowhere, her heart skipped and a wave of pain and horror washed over her, nearly strong enough to send her stumbling to the ground. A scream tore out of her throat. “Dash!”

Darkness swept over her in an instant, whisking the scene away in a swirl of shadows. Just as Saderia’s eyes started to flutter open, an ear-shattering scream tore through her Dream and echoed in the cold air of the night.

“We’re being invaded!”

Once a proud and powerful member of the pack, Thunder found his life turned around when he was exiled by the newest pack Leader, Rock. Now an outcast, Thunder struggles to survive and avoid his old pack mates - dingoes who were once his friends but who now want nothing more than a taste of his blood. As he tries desperately to stay alive, more and more dingoes are exiled and forced to suffer the same fate as Thunder.

Now that he lives a cursed life as an outcast, Thunder can finally see the cruelty in the pack ways. As more and more dingoes become outcasts and see the cruelty of the life they once embraced, Thunder becomes desperate to help them. But with the entire desert turned against him and his fellow outcasts, Thunder wonders if he will truly be able to help the outcasts…or if he will share the same cruel fate as the other ‘different’ canine he once knew - Dingo.

As conditions in the desert go from bad to worse, Thunder becomes desperate to stand up to Rock and get his freedom back. But as the prospect of war looms on the horizon, he wonders if he is the right one to lead the outcasts into battle…or if they deserve a better leader.

Thunder is one of the new characters who will appear in Rock Bottom. A few other new characters will also be introduced in the book, and several old characters will get new, interesting roles. I am working on drawing another important character that will appear in Rock Bottom, as well.

I've been working on drawing a new character that will appear in Book 5: Rock Bottom over the past few days, and I'm almost finished! The drawing and a few details about the new character will be posted tomorrow, so check back then to learn more about one of the new animals you'll get to meet in Rock Bottom! Hint: it's a dingo. :)

War is brewing…

At long last, Saderia returns to her home. But with a missing Queen and an entire forest to rebuild, her homecoming is tainted with worry. Soon, she is forced to leave on a desperate quest to find her mother before it’s too late.

Saderia’s forest is not the only land in trouble, though. A cruel tyrant named Rock has taken control of the dingo pack, creating turmoil in the desert. As Saderia searches for her mother, she stumbles upon hundreds of outcasts in the desert. With legions of enemies thirsting for their blood, the outcasts are desperate for help. But will helping the exiled dingoes mean dragging the forest into war?

While Saderia struggles to help the outcasts, Dash finds himself dreaming of an eerie clearing. A mysterious enemy from the past begins visiting him under the guise of helping him. But whose side is he really on? And when war breaks out, whose side will Dash choose?

As the threat of war looms on the horizon, Saderia tries to do what’s right, Dash plots in the shadows to win the war, and Dingo struggles to find a way to save the outcasts.

Battles are waged, dangerous plots are formed, enemies become allies…and in the end, nothing is the same…

I thought I'd post an update to say that the Rock Bottom cover is almost finished. I'm putting the finishing touches on it today, and it will be posted tomorrow. Check back then to see the new cover!

Hi everyone! Yesterday, I posted a picture of Dastarius, who would appear on the new cover for Rock Bottom. Today, I thought I would share another character I finished drawing for the cover just last night - Claw! (To see a bigger version, click the picture on the right).

Dingo's ghostly sister plays an important role in Rock Bottom. As the coming war between the desert and the forest heats up, she tries to keep an eye on Saderia's enemies and allies to try to devise a plan...But in her spare time, she wonders about a strange, mysterious spirit she has seen wandering the spirit world. For some reason, the eerie spirit has been watching the missing tiger Queen, Karenisha, and she wants to know why...

At this point, all of the characters for the Rock Bottom cover have been created. Now it's just a matter of putting them all together! The cover should be posted soon, so check back often within the next few days for updates!
